Opened in June 1986 at 125 metres tall, this 22-storey observation tower on the Chiba waterfront was built to mark Chiba Prefecture reaching a population of five million. It was also the first building in Japan to incorporate a dynamic damper for wind control.
Completed in 1961 at 106 metres, this slender white tower near Yamashita Park was once certified as the world's tallest lighthouse. After a major renovation in 2022, it continues to serve as one of Yokohama's most recognisable landmarks.
A 131m observation tower completed in 1964 just outside Kyoto Station, designed by architect Mamoru Yamada to resemble a traditional Japanese candle. The observation deck at 100m offers panoramic views of the city's ancient grid and three surrounding mountain ranges.
